Red Eye® Hot Tap Insertion and Retraction Technology

Red Eye Hot Tap Insertion and Retraction TechnologyWeatherford’s Red Eye hot-tap insertion and retraction technology allows insertion and retraction of a water-cut meter in a flowing pipeline. Hot-tap configurations are available for both the standard Red Eye 2G and MP product families. Red Eye meters use patented, optical-sensor technology to accurately measure the full range of water cut (0 to 100%) in a commingled stream of oil and water (and gas with the Red Eye MP). High accuracy across all water-cut levels and easy installation and configuration make this unique meter suitable for numerous applications. The meter can be used in stand-alone mode to measure and report instantaneous water cut or used with the net oil computer (NOC) to perform timed production well tests.

Product Requirements

The meter is designed for 6- to 12-in. (15.24- to 30.48-cm) piping that has an installed, 2-in. (5.08-cm) ball valve with a 600-lb. (272.15-kg) flange—ANSI-certified for up to 1,480 psi (102.6 bar). The distance between the top flange of the ball valve and the top of the piping must be approximately 16.25-in. (41.28-cm).
